WAS I WRONG?

Procreate Look Dev Test

Ive been saying for a very long time, though it is lost on the old blog now, that Clip Studio Paint has, hands down, the best brush engine of all the drawing tools I use on the iPad. Now I am not so sure. I am starting to think that it is more about which tool I, the user, am most accustomed to, and how much “line smoothing,” or stabilization (手ブレ補正) as it is called in Clip Studio Paint, that I am using. I think I veered into the realm of relying on this feature way too much. The look dev test above, which I did in Procreate this morning, uses a lot.

You see, all of these tools were new to me in 2020, when I just got this iPad. I may have solidified my ideas about what they are, and how well they work, based on what I was learning, or attempting, back then. The thing is, I’m a lot better now than I was back then. I likely have far greater control of, and have become more comfortable with, the Apple Pencil. What may have seemed like the right method, at that time, or felt like the right way to use the tools, may be holding me back today. Things didn’t feel right when I did the picture above. Things haven’t felt right for a while now. I think I need to look into the best way to go about things based on where I am now, and how I draw now, rather than just doing what I always did.
